The BBC and other news sources are reporting The Dark Knight star Christian Bale, 34, has been questioned and released after allegations of assault were filed against him by the actor's mother and sister. In London to promote the release of The Dark Knight, Bale attended the film's premiere on Monday night and then appeared at the police station on Tuesday for questioning on the assault charges.
According to the police, a report was taken on Sunday night concerning the incident which allegedly took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Bale was allowed by authorities to attend press conferences and The Dark Knight premiere on Monday before turning himself in. The BBC reports Bale was released by the police following four hours in custody.
Bale denies the charges.
Meanwhile, The Dark Knight entered the record books with a $158 million opening weekend. In addition to shattering records, the second Batman movie from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale is one of the best reviewed films of 2008 and Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker is considered by many to be one of the first legitimate Oscar contenders of the year.
